Research on Chiropractic

Most medical doctors have never even seen the vast amount of research done on the subject and ironically are unaware that a large portion of the research available has come from their fellow colleagues in the medical profession. The basic philosophy of chiropractic has held up over the years under consistent scientific and clinical scrutiny.

These are just a few of hundreds of studies that prove the safety, efficacy and cost effectiveness of chiropractic care.

The RAND Study

In this independent, ongoing study by RAND, an expert panel of doctors of medicine and doctors of chiropractic reviewed 35 years of research on spinal manipulation. They agreed that this is an appropriate and effective treatment for many kinds of low back pain. A second study by a panel of chiropractors agreed with the finding of the first study.

The AHCPR Guidelines

A panel of doctors of medicine and other health professionals developed these federal guidelines in 1994 for the Agency of Health Care Policy and Research. Based on a review of current research, the study recommends treating acute low back problems with spinal manipulation by a trained professional.

The MANGA Report

This was an outcome study funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health in 1993. Its goal was to hare information about ways to reduce the incidence of work related injuries and to address cost effective ways to rehabilitate disabled and injured workers. The MANGA Report overwhelmingly supported the efficacy, safety, scientific validity, and cost effectiveness of chiropractic for low back pain. It also found higher patient satisfaction levels were associated with chiropractic care than with medical treatment alternatives. The MANGA Report states. “The literature clearly and consistently shows that the major savings from chiropractic management come from fewer hospitalizations, and a highly significant reduction in chronic problems, as well as in levels and duration of disability.

What can chiropractic treat?

Chiropractic has been around for over 100 years. Over the years Chiropractors have experienced tremendous success in helping people with all kinds of health problems. Most people think that Chiropractors are merely back pain doctors who relieve back and neck pain by “popping the back.” They don't understand the implications of spinal misalignment (called subluxations) have on their total health.

Who needs Chiropractic Care?

If the spine is in normal alignment, nerve force flows freely and body function is normal. In a misaligned (subluxated) spine, nerve interference occurs and body function gets disrupted. Most people don't know that in addition to using proper lifting techniques, exercising, and drinking plenty of fluids, maintaining the spine requires periodic adjustments for stabilizing alignment. Without spinal adjustments subluxations develop in approximately nine out of ten people. The sad thing is many nerve related problems mimic medical problems and the patient never knows it. They repeatedly go to their medical doctor to find out what is going wrong and get something to cure their symptom, never realizing that the real cause could be spine and nerve related from a subluxation.

Everyone should have a chiropractor on their health care team and for one reason, proper spinal alignment for optimum nerve integrity.
